Carbondale's site in Jackson County, Illinois. Carbonondale is a Jackson County, Illinois, USA town within the South Illinois area, formally known as Little Egypt.

" From 1853 the town evolved by stimulating railway building in the area. Nowadays, the main roads of the Illinois Route 13 and the U.S. Route 51 cross in the town. Situated 154 km south east of St. Louis, Missouri, on the northerly border of the Shawnee National Forest.

The Carbondale is home to the Southern Illinois University headquartersampus. At the time of the 2010 Metropolitan Count, the town had 25,902 inhabitants and is the twentieth most inhabited town in the state outside the Chicago metropolitan area. It is also the most densely populated southern Illinois town outside the St. Louis Metro East and the most densely populated Carbondale Marion Herrin town in the Illinois Combined Statistical Area.

CSA has 126,575 inhabitants, the 6th largest consolidated statistics area in Illinois. Because of the large amount of carbon in the area, Brush called it Carbondale. Carbondale's first platoon journey came on Independence Day 1854 and travelled northbound on the principal line from Cairo, Illinois. Until the American Civil War, Carbondale evolved into a local centre for transport and commerce, immersed in rural prosperity.

Part of Illinois was called "Little Egypt" because of the junction of the Ohio and Mississippi tributaries, where the ancient Egyptian cities of Cairo are sited. Since 1856 the municipality has had a collegiate society, which began with Carbondale Collegium, established by the Presbyterian, which was later transformed into a primary one. Carbonondale also won the tender for new state teaching education for the area, and Southern Illinois Normal University was opened in 1874.

1947 the name was renamed Southern Illinois College. She has become the flag ship of the Southern Illinois system. Today recognised as a research institute, this institute has almost 18,000 registered student (as of 2014) and provides a large selection of Bachelor's and Master's programmes. This area was complete during the August 21, 2017 sunset, with Giant State Park, southern of the town, having experienced the longest total time during the sunset (about 2 min and 40 sec).

The Carbondale website is at 37°44?N 89°13?W / 37. The Carbondale was in the total pathway of an earlier sunset on August 21, 2017 and accommodated the longest period of the whole with 2 min 41. in Makanda Township, and will also be on its way to another April 8, 2024.

The Carbondale is situated on the northerly border of a wet semi-tropical climatic area (Köppen Cfa) with four different seasonal variations. The Carbondale gets storm on about 50 day per year. At the time of the 2000 census[17], 25,597 persons, 10,018 homes and 3,493 family members were living in the town. There were 66 of them in the town.

There were 15 people in the town. Southern Illinois is home to Southern Illinois President and Queen of Illinois as well as Southern Illinois President and Queen of Illinois President and Queen of Illinois President and Queen of Illinois President. The PBS and NPR (WSIU) transmitters are connected to the universities.

Carbonondale is also home to WDBX Community Radio for Southern Illinois and the Big Muddy Independent Media Center. This area is supplied by a local paper, The Southern Illinoisan and the University's Egyptian Day, as well as two weekly newspapers, The Carbondale Times and Nightlife. The SIU has a training centre on the campus, the Universitätsmuseum, which has 60,000 artefacts in its collections and houses travel shows by well-known artist.

Besides the University Museum there is the African American Museum and the Science Center. The SIUC also houses the biggest auditory in the south of Illinois, the Shryock Auditory. The Stage Company and Carbondale Community Art (CCA) jointly purchased and renovated the Varsity Theater, which had been empty since 2003, into the Varsity Center for the Art (VCA) in 2007.

Civil society is promoted by groups such as Carbondale Conversations for Community Action. Carbondale expresses true Christianity through various church confessions, a unitary universalist communion, two ministries, a Hebrew church, a Sufi communion, and two Buddha organisations - the Shawnee Dharma Group and the Sunyata Center.

South of Illinois, the first Hindu shrine opened in June 2013 in Carbondale. Because of its thriving poetic commune, Carbondale is sometimes called the " Poets' Village ". Some of the city's commercial areas are large commercial centres (including the University Mall on the eastern side of the city) where a mix of local chains and local companies can be found.

Carbondale is also home to many small stores and eateries, many of which are situated in the area. Carbondale Main Street, which contains lists and information about companies, supports the area. Due to the large number of students in the town there is a large selection of dining establishments with many different cuisines.

Carbondale Chamber of Commerce provides information on companies in over 60 different sectors. Calbondale is known for a number of annual festival events, among them the Lights Fantastic parade in December,[26] the Big Muddy Film Festival (February/March), the Southern Illinois Irish Festival (April), the Diwali Native American Festival (December), the Great Cardboard Boat Regatta (April), the Sunset Concert (a free summers with free open-air shows on the Southern Illinois University grounds and in municipal parks), and Brown Bag Concert (a free springs and autumns with free open-air shows in the Southern Illinois University campuses and municipal parks).

There are 18 Carbondale outdoor swimming pools and the Superblock, a multiplex with basketball, sofball, football, volleyball, athletics and volleyball pitches. Carbondale PD has seven gardens and an outdoor swimming hall for use by the general population. The Parkviertel opened a new spraying garden at Crispus Attucks Park[27] in 2010 and a Superblock Wasserpark in May 2016.

The Southern Illinois University Leisure Centre is open to the general public and offers swim, bowl, climb, play, basket, bowl, play basket, play volleyball, race ball, strength train and a wide range of fitness facilities. There are many places for Carbondale's open-air pursuits close by, among them about 14 nearby theme park. The Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge, the Shawnee National Forest, the Giant City State Park, the Little Grand Canyon, the Piney Creek Ravine, the Pomona Natural Bridge, the Garden of the Gods Wilderness Area and the Trail of Tears State Park are among them.

Cedar Lake, a five-minute drive from Carbondale, is a Cedar Lake urban pool open for sea and canoe trips. A few moments southern of Carbondale is Jeremy Rochman Memorial Park, founded by Barrett Rochman to commemorate his 19-year-old car crash ing victim Jeremy "Boo" Rochman.

Shawnee National Forest, near Carbondale, is home to many vineyards. Southern Illinois University's involvement also means that inhabitants of the Carbondale area can participate in the Salukis SIU Department I sports team outreach. Salukis " refers to a race of dogs from old Egypt, a pitching to the fact that the South Illinois area is often summarized under the moniker "Little Egypt".

" During 2011, the occupying movement took up residency on the Quigley Hall lawns at Southern Illinois College and sometimes clashed with locals' cops and college politics. A number of community-based organisations deal with issues of conflict, equity and the ecology, such as the Coalition of Southern Illinois/Fellowship of Reconciliation, the Shawnee Green Party, the Student Environmental Center, the Southern Illinois Center for a Sustainable Future and community sections of the American Civil Liberties Union, the Sierra Club and the National Audubon Society.

During 2001, the town hosted the Green Party Congress. One area near the Strip was also the scene of several notorious Halloween disturbances in the eighties and nineties. On Halloween the Southern Illinois Avenue with its campuses and nightclubs was shut down in the following years.

Carbondale is located at the junction of U.S. Route 51 and Illinois Route 13. Access to Route 13 at Marion to the west and Rt. 51 at Dongola to the south is via Route 57. You can reach lnterstate 24 six nautical miles from Marion on I-57. It is 331 H wyrd-mile from Chicago, Illinois, 96 Hwy-mile from St. Louis, Missouri, and 213 Hwy-mile from Memphis, Tennessee.

A historic comment when Illinois initially designed the State highway system in the 1920' s, which is now Rt. 51, was the Illinois Route 2, which covered the length of the state. Amtrak, the U.S. public transportation system, serves Carbondale with three services a day to and from Chicago and one a day to and from Memphis and New Orleans.

The Amtrak uses the Canadian National Railway, which provides rail transportation to the city's industry parks. Located along the Illinois Central Line, the railway began operating at Carbondale in 1854.
