Airbus Taxi

Taxi Airbus

The German government is planning to bring the Airbus and Audi Flying Taxi concept to heaven. Do you recall the great Pop.up mobilization theme that appeared at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show and recurred this year, re-designed as Pop.up Next? The electrically operated Pop.

up Next is a cooperation between Airbus, Audi and the Italian designer Italdesign. What's more, the Pop.up Next for testing has been turned green, bringing us one stage nearer our goal of becoming part of a taxi flight for urbanites.

According to Bloomberg, the federal cabinet this weekend will sign a memorandum of understanding with Airbus and Volkswagen's Audi units to test the aircraft in and around Ingolstadt. There is no concrete date yet for the start of the experiment, but as a number of other organisations are already running working prototype tests, those responsible for the pilot will endeavour to bring Pop-Up Next to market as quickly as possible.

So, what exactly will the first Pop Up Next tester intervene in? Now, if the next prototypes are something like the actual designs, they will find a plane that consists of two major parts - the floor unit, basically a futuristic-looking two-seater vehicle; and the droning unit that joins the roof of the vehicle before it flies to its final location.

Each module works with stand-alone technologies so passengers can easily programme where they want to go and let the engine do the work. Further sketches for dense, vertically mounted take-off and landing planes - which do not consist of two parts, like Pop.Up Next, but of a unique unity - include the 184 of the China EHang, Ubers Elevate-Maschine and the Volocopter built in Germany.

In addition to Pop-up Next, Airbus also supports the Vahana self-controlling aerial taxi.
