Now Alaska Airlines Habla Espanol

Alaska Airlines sees Mexico as more than just a seaside town. Also, as the Spanish people in the U.S. have increased, the percentage of Spanish-language travellers who use Alaska to meet up with their families and acquaintances in the 10 Mexico destination cities that Alaska now services has also increased. Even between home and abroad, Alaska and its local affiliate Horizon have seen a significant rise in Spanish-speaking travellers.

By the time this boom occurred, both airlines found that they were poorly prepared to cater to the Spanish-speaking traveller. The search for Spanish-speaking staff associated with their flight and client care operations was something of a hit-or-miss proposal. "Listening carefully to our clients, they told us they needed more opportunities and support in Spanish," said Steve Jarvis, Alaska' VP of Marketing and Client Experience.

For example, the carrier made great efforts to better service Spanish-speaking clients. As one of the first results of these efforts, a copy of the airlines' websites in English was launched this past week. However, we spend a great deal of our spare tire with some of our own Spanish-speaking staff to review the work of our external consultants to see if it was done correctly.

This website is only part of a big endeavour to make our airlines more available to our clients. We had a staff panel that has been working for some time on how to be more client focused for our Spanishspeaking clients. A thing that led us to press ahead with the translations was our expertise with on-line Spain advertisements.

Alaska and Horizon are proud to be able to meet our customers' needs, and we have heard from our clients for some considerable period of now that our Spanish websites would be a great place to be. Given the increasing Spanish-speaking populations in the United States, it is important for our businesses that we attend to this portion of our people.

What is beyond the English websites to Alaska and Horizon's efforts to make the airlines more available to Hispanic clients? We staff our call centres with more Hispanic account managers, and we assign Hispanic cabin crew to our Mexico departures. We will also be installing our own panels in Spain at our gate and client desks, and we will be producing part of our in-flight magazines in them.

Does your offer in Español concentrate solely on your flight to Mexico? Our efforts are targeted at Spanish-speaking clients who travel through our and Horizon's U.S. home office networks.
