The Central Illinois Regional Airport in Bloomington-Normal (IATA: BMI[2], ICAO: KBMI, FAA LID: BMI) is a publicly operated aerodrome in McLean County, Illinois,[1] three nautical miles eastern of Bloomington[1] and south eastern of Normal. Bloomington-Normal Airports Authority[1] is also known as Central Illinois Regional Airport or CIRA. Herman Will, a farm owner, opened a 70 hectare wing in the countryside of Normal Township in the early part of 1927.

It borders the recently tiled Illinois 2 (now U.S. 51/Main Street) to the west and the Illinois Central Railroad (now Constitution Trail) to the west. Kerrick, a bustling corn storage facility that is still a popular symbol, was located along the IC at the north-eastern edge of the area.

The new Central Illinois Regional Aerodrome (CIRA) was inaugurated at the end of October 1934.

There is nothing that can survive the old airfield, but a historical mark at the northern end of the Constitution trail recalls the place. You will find the marking on the western side of the trailer, opposite the Kerrick lifts. A large part of the site is now in the work in progress storage facility of Wildwood Industries, the locally based formwork group.

Bloomington/Normal International Terminal (BMI) was in 1996 re-named Central Illinois Regional Airport (often referred to as CIRA) to take account of its central position and to lure leaflets through the area. Until 1997, the number of passengers increased due to the addition of jets and the reduction of air fare by 71 per cent in 1997, making BMI the country's fastest-growing international aviation hub.

November 5, 2001, the new $14 million passenger base was opened at the International Airports Center, three Times the size of the former one. The CIRA is well represented in general aeronautics.
