Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, and Building and Land Technology (BLT), a Stamford Connecticut-based property development company, today announces that BLT will lay the foundation stone for a new charter main office complex in Stamford city centre, Connecticut, early next year.

Charter's new corporate base will be a 15 storey 500,000 sq ft plant at Gateway Harbor Point, expected to be operational by 2019. Immediately after the city of Stamford has finally approved the use of the site, the foundation stone will be laid. "The company has become the second biggest wire and cable operator in the U.S. since Charter's head office moved to Stamford in 2012," said Tom Rutledge, chairman and chief executive officer, Charter Communications.

"Charter will be able to draw on this new state-of-the-art centre in Stamford city centre to give it the necessary resource to grow further. Looking forward to further expansion in Connecticut, we thank Governor Malloy, Mayor Martin, the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development and the Stamford Area as a whole, the national, state and community delegations of elective civil servants for their continuing partnerships and assistance.

" "Governor Dannel P. Malloy said today is a great Connecticut day." "The Charter's commitment to creating an extra 1,100 employment shows that our policy investment continues to drive the economy and generate well-paid employment in the country. Looking forward to the further prosperity of Charter Communications as they continue to thrive within the state.

" "since they moved here in 2012. They are delighted to have decided to remain in Stamford, create employment and increase their team there. Investing in our city is good news and we welcome your trust in Stamford," said Mayor David Martin.

"Charter is very pleased to be partnering with us to build their new head office here at Gateway Harbor Point," said Carl Kühner, CEO of BLT. "And we look forward to working with her staff to build a state-of-the-art work place and eco-system to sustain Charter's continued vigorous expansion here at Stamford. "Charter will remain dedicated to the state of Connecticut and is planning to further increase the number of staff at its Stamford head office.

Charter is pledged to creating and maintaining a further 1,100 new workplaces at its head office following its undertaking to generate and maintain 400 workplaces in 2012 as part of the State's First Five programme. Charters has reached agreement on a $100 million investment plan for Connecticut over the next few years. The Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development will make an incentive plan available as a result of these pledges, which will include a $10 million immediate credit and up to $10 million in income taxes.

Supplementary income taxes will be available if Charter further enhances the number of Stamford workplaces. Gateway Harbor Point was selected because of its closeness to public transport and good connections to Interstate 95. It will be the first commercially viable building with immediate accessibility to Stamford railway stations so that staff can immediately use both Metro-North and Amtrak Acela.

There are also large layouts in the structure that allow greater versatility in terms of job layout. Cushman & Wakefield's Cushman & Wakefield business unit acted for Charter in this deal.
