Booking cheap flights like a professional

Planing a journey and searching for the right plane can be demanding and timeconsuming, so I am often asked how I actually do it. Whilst you probably want to find a good rate, you also don't want to wait longer than 3 hrs at stopovers. These are my common ways to find and book cheap flights worldwide:

Rather than directly check all airline websites, I usually use aircraft locators as my starting point. It is also useful if you do not know which airline is actually operating on the particular trip you want to take. Per Tip #1: If you have a household you should first select the prize and then the target.

The next thing I would do is click on the fare to see which Italian airport I can get to with this fare - like Milan or Pisa - and only then would I choose the date that offers me the best fare. Another example shows that in February 2015 I was looking for flights from Frankfurt, Germany to Bangkok, Thailand, because I haven't made an appointment yet, I just want to find the best one.

As I can clearly see, the lowest cost flights are either Monday or Thursday, while weekend flights are more expensive. The kayak gives you extra functionality as you can look for multi-storey excursions if you plan to go to some places in a row. What's more, the kayak also allows you to explore the area on foot. Some big towns have a big multinational aerodrome and then another low-cost aerodrome that you may not know the name of.

The kayak allows you to check the box "Select Nearby" and these aerodromes will also be included in the results. Per Tip #3: Don't miss out on smaller and lesser known carriers as they may have lower rates than the big ones. It is also possible to arrange by intermediate airport and airplane model!

In addition, you can try the Kayak Explore feature as it offers some good playing options: Momondo also allows you to look for travel to various places as well as nearest airport. Results are presented in the segment as "cheapest", "fastest" and "best".

Below are some other aircraft locators that you can also try out: ýAdioso - Just like a Google query, the site uses a naturally spoken idiom so you can easily enter "Bangkok to Phuket in 3 weeks". Cool because flights can be ordered by "torture", i.e. a mixture of fare, number of stations and time.

Search within certain categories that you can specify. Journeyocity - Free cancellations of reservations within 24 hours if you find a better offer in the meantime. Flights - Good for a fast glance, but Google only matches flights shown on airlines' websites and then lists them for you.

As soon as you want to book, you will be directed to the airline's website and have to book directly with the carrier, which may not always offer you the best rate. Per Tip #4: Select two different carriers for both directions. Although it is generally considered less expensive to book a round-trip air fare with an air carrier, this may not always be the case.

You may find a good one-way airline deal, but the cost of the plane is much higher, so you can book both ways separately. Keep in mind that airfares don't directly resell your ticket, they just give you an idea of the price and then guide you to a tour operator.

Occasionally this may also mean that the fare quoted in the list is no longer available and to your amazement you will only find a more costly one. Once you've found your best link, it's your turn to go straight to the airline's website. On so many comparison sites this is often ignored, but may be your best choice.

Airline companies can and will book a special directly through their own website. Occasionally low cost carriers advertise promotions within a few business hours and only last 24 hours or less. Subscribe to the airlines' newsletters at your local destinations to make sure you don't miss these offers, as it's too time-consuming to visit their websites regularly.

Observe also the airline companies' own socially responsible areas, as they often also make dealings. Tip #5: Register for the airline alert and the airline newsletters to make sure you don't miss any offers. Every site has the possibility to register for notifications, and I would really suggest this. You' ll be alerted by e-mail when the rate falls and can even choose a top rate.

Kayaking requires you to create an affiliate profile (or login to Facebook or Google), while Skyscanner requires you to enter your e-mail adress. Be sure to verify that your windows are not just forged! Professional Tip #6: Always clear your browsing history, cookie and memory before you search for flights, as many sites keep tracking the number of visits and changing rates accordingly.
