Lagos with its narrow lanes and hippy-dippy ambience is the ideal starting point for a group vacation. It has many nice sandy beaches (our favorite is Meia Praia) and a small but beautifully shaped yacht harbour with some nice cafes. The city itself has a large selection of great night clubs, but don't get too excited about the drinks.

Algarve's west coast is the gate to Lagos, known for its amazing wave, so there are many windsurfing centres where you can study to get ten. Silves in the interior is crowned by an imposing Moorish fortress, an archaeological museum and a unique XVI century crucifix that marks a pilgrimage itinerary.

It also has many good places to eat, and because you're off the shore, you can be sure to get much less. It is only a stone's throw by car from the Sierra de Monchique, a mountain region perfectly suited for long hikes in early and late fall.
