Singapore-There are 56,300 private motorists on the streets now, but a significant number may have to cease picking  up a passenger in a month. What's more, the number of private motorists on the streets has increased by more than Altogether 23,900 riders or around 40 percent have not yet completed the Private Hire Car Driver's Vocational Licence (PDVL) or passed the test.

Private motorists were granted a one-year extension by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) for the provision of driver service after the regulatory authority launched a professional approval procedure in the second half of last year. If they submitted a proposal for a PGDL before 1 July 2017, they were still permitted to work for applications such as Grab and Uber, which no longer existed.

LTA authorized these riders to take the 10-hour professional ID course and passed the exam by June 30 of this year. In this group of 23,900 people, it is not clear how many choose not to complete the course or have difficulties meeting the exam. Ever since, motorists have said that bonus payments have been withdrawn, leading to lower income.

LTA said the test has a 70 percent pass rat. Soon Zhao Hui, 26, who received his PADVL at his first trial in February, said the challenges were to remember some of the curricula - such as the scoring system and a section on health that included topics such as changing your diet and your body's health.

"Mr. Soon said, "You have to recall them because they might come out in the exam," the cook is, but he's part-time. Whilst driver have complained about the long wait line to get a slot in order to attend and take the test the PDVL course, the LTA said on Friday (June 1) that the median wait from between four and six weeks will have been cut to one week.

LTA has expanded course capability by naming ComfortDelGro Taxi as the new course supplier and the Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) as the new test center in December 2017. Prior to that, the Singapore Taxi Academy was the most important supplier of trainings and test centres for candidates of Parking Vans. LTA said on Friday that it strongly encouraged the 23,900 private motorists to register for practice and take the test administered by the PDR.

"ýThis is to prevent a situation in which these drivers are unable to get a PDVL by June 30 due date because of a last-minute fluctuation in bookings,ý the agency said. LTA added that it has been texting and reminding these riders since the beginning of the year, and is also working with the National Private Hire Vehicle Association to get riders on the course.

Private motorists driving without a PDR can be punished with a fine of up to $1,000, imprisoned for up to three months, even a combined fine.
