Private jet business is a fiercely contested business where businesses will take every opportunity to retain customers while attracting new ones. What makes the fact that Cirrus-a Duluth, Minnesota-based airline, is coming out with the most affordably priced private jet in the entire planet, something that will cause a stir in the business.

Cirrus starts delivering the first series of SF50 Vision Jet after about a ten -year period of design to the more than 600 clients who bought it first (the first aircraft arriving in Switzerland in mid-May this year). At the end of last year, the airline was granted approval by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which not only smoothed the way for Americans to buy the jet, but also for overseas purchasers to engage their governments for due and orderly flight licensing (FAA-certified private aircraft can quickly obtain the necessary papers to travel in and out of overseas).

But the way to distribute their first planes was not always a clear one. On its way, Cirrus suffered severe turbulences, especially during the 2008 recession. "We had to significantly reduce our pace when the business world suffered a blow," says Dave Rathbun, Chief Engineer at Cirrus, who manufactures several other aircraft besides the SF50 Vision.

" Whilst the first purchases went to customers in Europe and North America, Cirrus attracts customers from all over the world. "From South America to South Africa, we are active in markets," says Rathbun. Cirrus' SF50 Vision Jet was $1.96 million. This means for about two million bucks that the owner has a private jet that can transport five adult and two child passengers between 1,000 and 1,200 leagues at a speed of 28,000 ft in the sky while crossing at 345 km/h. In other words, enough to get from New York to Miami in about three hour.

All the more impressing when you consider that a used private jet of different airline companies like Gulfstream or Embraer can be sold for more than 10 to 12 million dollars. "As Rathbun says, the individual motor leads to a certain amount of cutting in costs. It will be appreciated by the owner, because after the sale the operating costs will decrease significantly in comparison to a similarly large private aircraft.

Cirrus' way of manufacturing its complete SF50 Vision Jet was to reduce the cost without adding passenger risks. "Rathbun says that the aircraft is made almost exclusively of high-performance composites of coal fibre and epoxy. What's more, it's made of a high quality plastic film. "Historically, an aircraft has been made of aluminium, which is not in itself costly.

" Most of the reasons why Cirrus is able to do this and other aircraft builders are not, is quite simple: About Cirrus: Cirrus is a relatively newcomer. "Since we are a relatively young business, we profit from the fact that we do not apply decades-old production methods. While other companies use organic fibers, they still mount parts like aluminium because that's how their plant works," said Ben Kowalski, vice president of marketing and communications for Cirrus.

" Every Cirrus SF50 Vision Jet purchaser can choose from a variety of cabin trim choices. For those who wish to furnish their own indoor spaces, however, the firm has developed a programme that makes this possible. "Customers can choose from a number of our design choices, or if they wish, they can come to the drawboard with us to make sure the inside of the aircraft matches their aesthetics," says Alex Alequin, Design Director at Cirrus.

"Your inspirations could come from earlier automobiles you bought, or from certain parts of your home. "Asked about some of the stranger wishes for the interiors, Alequin replied: "We had a question from a ballplayer about equipping the interiors with leather lined leather boots and reds to make them look like a baseball".
