Srilankan Airlines Direct Flights

From 29 October SriLankan Airlines will begin direct flights between Melbourne and Colombo on a day-to-day basis. This is a long-awaited re-entry of the Oneworld carrier and de facto Qantas partners to the heavens of Australia and the only direct link from Australia to Sri Lanka, as already announced by Australia Business Traveller. According to the 2011 Australia People' s Cup, Victoria is home to 50 percent of Australia's Sri Lankan people.

Here is the timetable for the flights from Sri Lanka to Melbourne-Colombo: Flights will be operated by an Airbus A330-200 with 18 reclining berths in full 2-2-2-2 configuration: A SriLankan Airlines spokesman, however, told Australian Traveller Business: "It is likely that the A330-300 will also be in service. It will be a significant passenger upgrading, with 28 advanced seating units, similar to those of Cathay Pacific, in a more comfortable 1-2-1 layout:

The PREVIOUS [1 May 2016] | EXCLUSIVE | SriLankan Airlines will begin flights between Melbourne and Colombo towards the end of this year, thus highlighting the airline's long-awaited flight back to the Aussie hemisphere. As a spokesman for the Sri Lankan flagship carriers, who discontinued flights to Sydney and Melbourne many years ago, pointed out to the Australia based Traveller that the flight plan could include four flights a week, using an Airbus A330 with reclining passengers in SWISS Classic for the 11-hour outing.

It will be the only direct flight from Australia to Sri Lanka - most travelers travel to the minuscule islands off the south tip of India via Singapore, with flights offered by Sri Lanka and Singapore Airlines. Travelers in Qantas Frequent Flyer Plus category and those in Qantas Frequent Flyer Plus category can use Qantas' Melbourne Lounge, which includes Qantas First Lounge for Qantas Platinum and Platinum One members.

Mutual membership allows FlySmiles Gold members to use the Qantas Business Lounge, while FlySmiles Platinum members can use the Qantas First Lounge to create a luxurious experience. Travelers also have the opportunity to earn FlySmiles through the Sri Lanka FlySmiles programme or the Qantas programme.
