Global Taxi Tariff

The taxi rates in Singapore are the 20 lowest in the world: subscript SINGAPORE: The taxi rates in Singapore are the 20 lowest in the world, according to an index of the UK-based second-hand vehicle retailer on line Carspring. In 2017, the Taxi Price Index polled 80 of the "most popular cities" in the world, among them New York, London, Hong Kong and Bangkok. Commenting on his rankings, Mr Cirspring said that it takes into account the costs of calling a taxi, the costs per kilometer, the costs of queuing and the fare typically charged from the airports to the center. Every class has been normalized, and the ultimate rating is calculated according to the fare for a 3 km trip within each town.

Carspring says Cairo has the lowest taxi rates in the world - a 3 km drive would typically be US$0.55 (S$0.75). On the other hand, a taxi journey with the same route in Zurich would throw a traveller back by 25.25 US dollars, the most expensive of the towns interviewed. Mumbai cabs are the lowest in the Asia-Pacific Pacific area, charging $1.40 for a 3 km journey, the second lowest in the world.

According to the index, a 3 km taxi trip in Singapore would be 4.01 US dollars. Cairo ('4.20 US dollars) was still at the top of the list in terms of the costs for a trip from the international airports to the center of the town. Same trip in Tokyo was the most costly of all 80 towns and according to the index it usually costs around 189.91 US dollars.

With a fare of 27.31 US dollars, Singapore came in 31 places. In terms of the price of getting into a taxi easily, it is the most costly in Zurich, where the starting rent is $8.30. This is the best value country as a taxi will charge you $0.19 at the beginning of a trip.

This makes Singapore the 33rd lowest priced country, with travellers spending about $2.57 when they get into a taxi for the first time. This index also showed that the rides are active in 63 of the 80 towns on which they were concentrated. In order to put together the shortlist, Mr Cirspring said it was collecting information from the officials website of each town.

Among them were features such as the most beloved automobile with taxi riders from the towns he studied (it is the Hyundai 40 in Singapore).
