Among the producers of new and used LSA are BRM Aero, Czech Sport Aircraft Flight Designs, Jabiru and Tecnam. The LSA may contain pre-engineered aircraft that comply with the LSA specifications; S-LSA (Special Light Sport Aircraft) or ready-to-fly factory-engineered aircraft that comply with the ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) standard of excellence for commercial use; and E-LSA (experimental LSA) that contain kit and recreational aircraft that comply with the LSA specifications.

This latter cannot be used for commercial purposes, but can be used as a coach if the pupil possesses the aircraft. At least one Sport Pilot certification is required for LSA to fly, which is simpler to obtain than other licences, but is basically limited to one person per flight, to unpopulated aerodromes and only during the days of visual flight.
