I' m with my man in Florence, who quickly gets tired of the excess of walks that we take both between the interesting places and after the loss that happens to us several days a year. You can' just stop a cab in Florence. I tried to find a taxi stand listing on-line, but couldn't.
Anyone know where I can find such a shortlist? but you could go to a pub for a cup of tea or something and ask if they'll call a cab for you. Here you can see a card of all taxi ranks in Florence: Rick Cards from Rome highlight taxi ranks, but not for Florence, so I'm glad to see that you have this listing.
Don't be afraid to ask a locals on the pages you visit. Stop at a small restaurant and ask for a taxi.

The cabbie speaks some simple English, I am sure there will be no problems at all when it comes to making a stop along the way. You should have no trouble keeping your baggage in the driver's cabin - but as a safety measure you should take care to take the name of the driver's cabin - it is located on both sides of the driver's cabin between the front doors and the wheels and is generally the name of a town and a number such as "Milano 25".
This way, if anything happens or if you left something behind, you can always ID the taxi you were in. Make a list of the taxi companies - the most frequent is So.Co.Ta. with the number 055.42.42.42...... You will also see this on the taxi itself. It' s completely okay to ask the taxi driver himself for the information, he shouldn't be insulted ;-).
And if you want, you can type this sentence in Italian on a sheet of sheet metal and fill in the stop and address for the taxi driver....... and if the taxi driver really doesn't get the stop in the centre, show him! ma prima degbiamo ferarci a ..........
When you leave before 7 a.m., call the taxi to your flat... otherwise you won't find any taxi at the booth and still have to call one there!
