All you need to know about Basic Economy fares
Whilst an educated customer would like to spend less on a base economic ticket, airline companies also profit, says Hunter Keay, seniors at Wolfe Research, a research and analytics group. This is because airline companies use their economic tariffs to attract travellers to their web sites. Then once they see the limitations, it's not so difficult to get them to buy a more costly, off-the-shelf economic ticket, Keay says.
Due to the range of services provided by the Basisökonomie, airline companies can also raise the prices of their regular economy-ticket. Wolfe Research found in a recent survey that when low-cost ticket sales are sold out, there will be increased consumer demands for regular economic travel passes and airline companies will react by increasing these rates. For example, on US routes that provide a base economics, the prices for entry-level economies increased by an estimated 117 per cent on a daily basis between the date of the first service and departure, versus an estimated 20 to 50 per cent growth in the sector, according to the survey.
