BA is the airline[6][7] and the biggest carrier in the United Kingdom in terms of fleets or the second biggest after easyJet in terms of transported passenger numbers. BA joined Iberia in January 2011 and established the International Airlines Group (IAG), a Madrid, Spain-based parent bank.

The BA was formed in 1974 after the British authorities set up a British Airways Board to run the two UK carriers British Overseas Airways Corporation and British European Airways and two local carriers, Cambrian Airways of Cardiff and Northeast Airlines of Newcastle upon Tyne. All four undertakings were amalgamated to create British Airways on 31 March 1974.

This airline grew with the acquisitions of British Caledonian in 1987, Dan-Air in 1992 and British Midland International in 2012.
