You can see that you can become a leisure hangglider for under $2,500, a canopy for under $5,000 and a motorized canopy for under $10,000 - or buy a small portion of these prizes if you just want to try it and don't end up buying your own canopy.

PPC is a motorised wheeled chute that can move between 25 and 35 parts per hour (MPH) at heights between 500 and 1,500 ft. A relatively low speed, motorised canopy is ideal for viewing and photographing. Like motor sailplanes, most of these sturdy, basic aircraft belong to the "ultra-light" class, so no licence is needed to operate - but this only holds for single-seaters.

Perhaps you'd like something a little bit more like a true aircraft adventure. Whilst it may look more like a crossing between a kite and an aircraft, an ultra-light tricycle is a particular kind of budget aircraft that you can pilot across the sea and into your courtyard stretch.

Pilots sit comfortable in an open cockpit and steer the aircraft with weight-reduced controls. Several have described the ultra-light tricycle as a "flying motorcycle". "For an ultra-light tricycle, the mean airspeed is 75 MPH and it can climb up to 10,000ft. As long as the tricycle is in the ultra-light single-seater class, no licence is needed to use one.

Privately funded education expenses are similar to those of other forms of ultra-light flying (typically less than US$2,000). Buy a new ultra-light $5,000 trip and say you can make it yourself for only $2,000! As with the other planes presented here, there is no need for a licence to fly a balloon if it falls into the ultra-light class due to its mass.

Nevertheless, some types of convection ballons fall into the "lighter than air" or "light" category, which requires approval, as do those that are carried by more than one individual. Whilst new hotspots can reach from $20,000 upwards, you can find a smaller used hogs for only $5,000. Remember that the price of servicing, regulation, insuring and refuelling will also be between a hundred and a thousand dollar a year - the price of refuelling, of course, depends on the duration and rate of the flights (most sports flyers only operate between 35 and 75 hrs a year).

In theory, however, you could become a leisure thermal ballon flyer and ownership for upfront costs well under $10,000. Nothing but a genuine aircraft is enough for some prospective flyers. While one can expect that all aircraft bear labels of six digits and more (like most in fact), it is possible to get a plain, mono powered aircraft for far less than that.

You can even find some all-metal ultra-light aircraft on eBay that are under $10,000. Naturally, you should be well aware of what kind of aircraft you are purchasing and not just the cheapest aircraft you can find. They want to ensure that the aircraft has good service documentation - most of the above aircraft are 1940' and 50' model aircraft - as well as good security data and no loss record (including cost of service, insurances, fuel, etc.).

You also need a pilot's licence to operate light aircraft, although a sports licence to operate light aircraft should not be much more than $3,500. Overall, if you are committed to the goal of becoming an aircraft flyer and aircraft operator, you can do so for less than $20,000 - and you can become a certificated flyer for less than $5,000 if (understandably) you don't have enough reserve money to jump for your own aircraft right now.
