I' m going alone to Florence and I'm a fifty- to something girl. A taxi takes me from the aerodrome to my guesthouse, the hotel Silla on the banks of the river Arno, opposite the Ponte Alle Grazie in San Nicholo. I' m always worried that taxi riders are unjustly charging me when I'm on my own, and I'm looking for help with the question of what the cabin price should be?

Apart from the fact that the city of Florence prescribes a 20 euros tax holiday tax from the airports to the historic centre (22 euros on Sunday and public holidays). You have to pay 1 EUR per pocket. However, I don't think that you will be charged a supplement from 22.00 to 6.00 (just over 3 euros), since all arrival times in Florence are between 8.00 and 22.30.

When you are billed 80 euros for a vehicle that takes you from Florence to Ponte Vecchio, yes, you will be attacked. I have never spent more than 28 Euros from my home on the opposite side of the city from the international airports to the city.

After Ponte Vecchio, located in the centre of the town, about 4 mile from the international airports, the taxi rate is 20 euros (22 euros on Sundays), + 1 euros per sack. Travelling between 22.00 and 6.00 a.m. you will be charged a supplement of 3-4 Euros (approx. 6 more on a Sunday).

So if someone wants 80 Euros from me to take me from the Ponte Vecchio aerodrome to Ponte Vecchio, he better take me with 3 Ferrari or at least take me to the Chianti vineyards. At the moment the price is 60 Euro - inclusive all baggage. It is the first times that I have organized the transportation through the hotels, and it is appealing, because if I leave all the dull eyes, it is enough to keep the children and the man in drag to collect baggage; I really enjoy the thought of someone awaiting us - I don't have to stop a taxi and I don't have to bargain when I'm hardly up.

20 Euros from the Florence International Airports to the centre of Florence - this is not a per capita fee! A lot of privately owned passenger vehicle companies offer everything they want and it seems as if this is the case with the truck service. So it would be less expensive for you to divide into two groups and take two cabs than to use an 80 Euros minivan service.

It is inexpensive for a group of 6 persons to bring 2 cabs specially to the place you specify. There is an airportbus to Santa Maria Novella railway and from there you will need other means of transport to your accommodation. There is an officially charged 6 Euros per passenger to or from the airports, which is already 36 Euros for 6 persons and you are still not in your accommodation.

Taxi rate is 20 Euros per vehicle + 1 Euros per pocket (slightly more for Sunday or night). 5 persons may need 2 cabs, but not necessarily. A few cabs are mini vans that can carry 5 persons (e.g. the super-ugly Fiat Multipla, which is a 6-seater). Simply ask at the taxi rank, there is always a long taxi queue at Florence International Airports.

Maybe you'll have to spend a little more time waiting for a mini van taxi to show up, but if you don't mind the additional waiting time, you might be able to get away with just one taxi. However, 2 cabs will not cost more than 25 euros each, inclusive of bag.

Fifty Euros is still a better offer than 1 NCC for 80 Euros.
