Since the new price system came into force on 30 January 2017, Tokyo has been particularly well served by shorter routes. A lot of taxi companies allow you to pay by prepaid phone, prepaid application, prepaid chip etc. and pay in advance. When you have the addresses either on your mobile telephone or on a piece of hard copy, preferably in Japanese, it will make things easier. Booking a cab before going anywhere is a good way to make sure you get a ride when you need it most. Certain companies also provide fixed rates for certain distance, in particular for shuttle flights.

Others charge an extra charge on the cabin price if you make an advanced booking (usually approximately ¥400). While many taxi businesses in Tokyo are well served by British sites, apartments and multi-lingual call centres, in other areas it may be more challenging to make a taxi reservation in England.
