The Koolair Limited was founded in 1980 with its headquarters, exhibition room and workshops in Nugegoda, a suburb about 10 km from the Sri Lankan capitol Colombo. Eventually the studio and studio were transferred to Colombo, while the garage stayed. When the business grew and needed more room, the shop changed to a bigger facility on land the business had purchased for this in 1990.

During 2011, it was determined that better co-ordination was needed between the offices and the shop floor. The business was housed under one umbrella in a building large enough to accommodate both businesses on Balapokokuna Road Kiralapone. At the beginning of the business in 1980, the group had 12 members of staff. Today, the number of staff is 116.
