This is our guideline for the purchase of a round-the-world fare.

And my tickets for all this were a round-the-world flight that took me via Hong Kong to London. And then I stayed for six month in Europe from Sweden to Sicily, before going to New York, where I flew around the USA in budget airlines and a rented automobile, before leaving Los Angeles six week later and returning to Australia.

Air fares around the world are not just for jobless alumni with remaining month. An RTW tariff can have several possibilities to trace back within the same continents, he says, while most tariffs also allow land routes - for example, to go to London and make your own way (overland or on a one-way flight ) to go from another town in Europe, or to go to New York before you find your own way to Los Angeles for your return flight.

Regarding the easier, cheaper tariffs, Mr Fox says that Swiss, Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines and Finnair all provide competitive round-the-world tariffs, with Swiss and Lufthansa generally being "the two best in pricing and destination selection". RTW rates of this kind usually require you to go through the carrier's major hubs, which can be either good or bad according to where it is located and how it suits your itinerary.

With Finnair (and its partners ), for example, you could fly Perth to Asia, Asia to Europe via its Helsinki hubs, Europe to New York via Helsinki and then home via Los Angeles and Sydney for just $1,600 to $1,700. It is a favorite choice both in economics (depending on what Emirates has in specs, you can get it for less than $2000") and in doing so, says Ms. Edwards, in doing so, in doing so, she says, with similar choices that Qatar and Etihad offer via Doha and Abu Dhabi.
