Cab Price per Mile

The HOUSTON - Cab riders who have voiced their concerns about businesses like Uber and Lyft based in Houston say Regional 2 Investigates that they are not scared of competing, they just want Uber and Lyft to obey the same set of standards as cab riders. Company clients use a cell-phone application to order a vehicle that usually reaches them within a few moments.

Chauffeurs use their own cars. Service has become increasingly popular over the past year as Uber and Lyft are generally cheaper than taxis. Locally 2 Investigates was testing Uber's rates for two rides against those of a cab. In Houston all taxis must have the same fare.

Locally 2 Investigates took a cab from the Galleria to the city centre on a week-end. Taxicab fee was $30.66. $19.62 for the Uber repatriation. A crossing from West Heights to Bush Intercontinental Airport was $46.88. Houston's Yellow Cab manager, who runs several Malaysian taxis, says he is dissatisfied with Uber and Lyft.

Others do not. About has increased the price on public holidays as well as for promotional activities in some towns. The Lyft will increase fares by only 25 per cent to up to 200 per cent at a time when the number of passenger enquiries significantly exceeds the number of riders on the street, Lyft spokesman Paige Thelen said.

"Uber rider partner passes the most stringent backgrounds in the business. Sifting will include penal reviews at the county, state and multi-state level and a check of drivers' car records," Lauren Altmin, Uber speaker, said. As Lyft says, its riders are checked for crimes and occurrences at state and regional level, as well as the registers of sexual offenders.

One Houston public liability lawyer, who generally makes large lawsuits against large corporations but is not party to the Uber and Lyft law, says taxis and other corporations are not the same. "Aimee Robert said to Local 2 Investigates, "I think most folks think of Uber and Lyft or other businesses as faster, simpler alternative taxis, but in fact they are very different.

" Robert says there were misgivings in the past that the driver got into a car crash. Occasionally, the driver's own insurances have chosen not to insure an incident because it was due to a business trip. Over and Lyft now offer additional protection, with businesses saying they will be providing up to $1 million in insurances.

According to Lyft, passengers have submitted past assertions and the rules have disbursed cash to passengers. Municipal Council has postponed a referendum until 30 July to adopt the suggested rules that could oblige Uber and Lyft cyclists to sign up with the municipality and which will be under the supervision of the municipality.

Taxis in Houston calculate different fares for day and night journeys. On day excursions, the measured cost of the trip is $2.75 for the first 11th of a mile or less plus $0.20 for each further 11th of a mile or less.

On night rides, the measured expense charge is $3.75 for the first 11th of a mile or less plus $0.20 for each subsequent 11th of a mile or less.
