Arrival & Departure

The Adelaide International Airport (ADL) is just over 4 mile from the center of the downtown area and from the airport it is really quite simple to get into the area. They can take a cab - it cost about $25. A $2.00 supplement will be charged for taxi travellers leaving the airport.

Arrival and departure from and to the airport: They can take a taxi as prescribed by the taxi cocier at the airport. There is no need to make a reservation in advance as it is uncommon to spend a long while waiting for a taxi to arrive at the taxi stand - it is common for many taxi riders to line up to pick up their passenger from the airport.

Fare will vary and cost about $25. City or North Adelaide (ask a taxi company for the latest information as fares vary from occasion to occasion) and the trip will take about 10 - 20 min according to the hour.

A $2.00 supplement will be charged for taxi travellers leaving the airport. Shared a taxi with another traveller to your final point, with slightly different charges for each one. When you have a handicap and need additional help or room for your chair, the janitor will make sure that your needs are catered for.

JetBus (J1 or J2) is the best way from or to the airport in the town. At only $5.30 (for a one-way adults' pass bought by the chauffeur when boarding), the J1 coach will take you to or from the ground floor of the airport terminus to the Adelaide Central Business District (Currie Street and Grenfell Street, then north along Pulteney Street and East on North Terrace, ending at the entry to Royal Adelaide Hospital and Botanic Gardens).

Though it doesn't stop at your specific resort like SkyLink, there are a number of downtown stations that are comfortable for most travellers, and you can catch other busses if you're going to North Adelaide or other outskirts. www.adelaidemetro.com. au The Adelaide Metro website also advises you to take the 162 buss, but you need to be conscious that the 162 buss doesn't go into the airport street system, and it would look like a very long footpath between the airport and Sir Donald Bradman Drive, especially if you have baggage.

When you stay at the lovely Glenelg Strand, the Adelaide Metro system will offer a J1 coach connection from the airport (base station) to Glenelg from 15 October 2006. That saves a lot of trouble if you have to drive into town first and then to Glenelg - much better if you arrive with some Jetlag.

Note that the J2 coach will only take you westwards to the Harbour Town Shopping Centre, but will take you into town if you travel east. Adelaide Airport Flyer offers door-to-door services from the outskirts and main tourism attractions (e.g. Fleurieu Peninsular, Murray Bridge, The Barossa etc.) if you are living with or outside the CBD.

Note that your minivan will co-ordinate pick-up from remote locations for several persons traveling at similar hours, so it is possible for you to depart for the airport sooner than expected on your way back, so the cost will be borne by other travelers (e.g. a 4:30 a.m. pick-up from Para Hills for a 7:30 a.m. inland flight).

It can be even more comfortable and accessible for you than taking a taxi or using the Adelaide Metro busses to get you to or from the outskirts and then taking J1 or J2 bus in town to catch an early or delayed plane. It is also possible to hire a vehicle (there are several different types of hire cars at the airport, such as Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz and Thrifty) or a limos.

Rent a vehicle is located at the baggage carousel on the basement level of the terminals, while the vehicle is ready for pick up on the basement level of the new parking lot. Since 6 August 2012, a new parking lot has been in operation, enabling those who greet or say goodbye to their buddies to leave their vehicle under the roof and shelter and stay protected during the stroll to the terminals.

Fees appear to be quite high in comparison to downtown car parks. Fruits and veggies are cheap in Adelaide, so you don't have to buy them before you come!
