To be a taxi in Barcelona, you must first hold a taxi driving license from the Barcelona Metropolitan Region. In order to obtain the license, you must first complete both a theory and a practice exam. Taxi riders also have to fulfil certain language skills.

If you are from a region in Spain outside Catalonia or other Spanish-speaking country, you must produce an officially certified language proficiency card certifying that you have at least acquired at least Catalan language proficiency levels 2. Non-Spanish speakers must present a certification certifying that they have reached proficiency levels B 1 of one of the two Catalan language levels (Spanish or Catalan) and A 2 of the other two.
