Open Leg Flights

An open-back origin where the passengers depart from one town to another but go back to another. To fly from London to New York, for example, but to go back from New York to Manchester. The use of different aerodromes in the same town is not regarded as open-jaw, so that a London JFK returning from Newark would still be a roundtrip passenger as both aerodromes are regarded as in New York. Open spaces between towns are shown on the route like ARNK, the same codes that are shown on the Global Distribution System of an air carrier or agent.

This is because flight reservationsystems ( and large size gds ) need the following segment in sequence, so arrival in one town and departure from another cause the system to issue an alert. ARNK informs the system that this is intended and also allows the issuing system to disable the non-used vouchers of a given tickets.

An open baking target would look like this on a route with the ARC on the second section to show that it is not flying with this one. Occasionally this kind of agreement is required for boating trips that do not revert to the starting town. Otherwise, the traveller wants to discover between two points and does not have to bother to use the amount of free travel for returning to the place of origin.

Travellers can, for example, go from London to Bangkok, take local trains through Thailand and return to London from Phuket. Open-back ticketing is a relatively cheap and versatile flight method, as it is offered as a round ticket price, which is almost always cheaper than buying two one-way flights between the destination you visit.

A further popular route for open-jaw travel is that of one-way touring. Take, for example, a trip to Florida, where a traveller who flies to Jacksonville, Orlando or Miami hires a rental automobile or participates in a coach trip to his destination airports and hands back the automobile or finishes the trip in the city from which he will fly home.

There may be some limitations on how open-back ticket routes are routed. Most often the open cheek segment must be shortened compared to the flying one. Under certain conditions, the place of arrival and place of departure must be in the same IATA area or limited to the same state.
