Hire Carriage & Private Hire Vehicle License

Taxi or car rental is permitted only for cars that meet the requirements of the city administration. Our vehicle offer comprises limousines, station wagons, MPV's as well as specially constructed and handicapped access cars. Any new Hackney Carriage Vehicle must be handicapped access. Legacy Hackney Carriage license cars may be assigned to a new owner and this license may still be granted for limousines and station wagons.

The Gloucester City must show the rooftop cab name. It must have a counter which must be verified at an authorised test facility and show the actual fare map in the vehicle. May use Gloucester taxis and be welcomed on the road. May also be reserved in advance. Got to show a badge for the coach track. Has to affix labels that indicate that the passenger is not covered if the trip is not prebooked through the carrier.

It must show a flashing number plate in the windows and on the front and back of the vehicle. Tariffs can only be claimed if they have been prebooked through a Gloucester privately owned landlord (who is invited to pick up passengers). Do not use taxi ranks or a rooftop symbol. Once a counter is installed, it must be verified at an accredited Hackney Carriage & Hire Testing Station and the actual fare chart must be shown in the vehicle.

An important distinction between the two kinds of licenced cars is that they can be marked taxis, use taxis and can be prebooked. However, privately rented cars must be reserved in advance, otherwise the trip is not covered by insurance. May not be older than 5 years from the date of first approval at the time of first approval.

Can accommodate up to 8 people. They must have their corresponding license plate numbers on the. License plate number, vehicle data and expiration date of the license are indicated on the license plate.

Each vehicle is registered for 12 month. Each vehicle shall be subjected to an on-going roadworthiness test on a test bench authorised by the Council.
