Fiumicino Rome airport taxi stand vs. car to Rome
There is a special offer for your personal door-to-door transfers between Rome Funicino & Central Rome Hotel - but which one? Expressed on papers, the taxi service licenced from Flughafen Friedrichshafen is a very appealing one. Airports are charged a 48 euros rate between Rome's central office and downtown Rome, which are considered to be within the walls of Rome's famous tourist district (see chart below)....
Taxis include checked bags and are designed for a max. of four persons. A lot of them are small - see the picture on the right at the taxi stand of Fiumicino, rather a small travel companion for a small person with a suitcase than for recreational travelers with a bag. Vehicles for the City of Rome taxi services are painted red and can be identified by the "TAXI" plate on the top and by the license plates on the door, on the back and inside the vehicle.
Sadly, the taxis in Rome have a bad record for robbing innocent tourist, especially at the airport and Termini station. The perpetrators are usually not taxis at all, but rather disguised as such. When you do not walk within the ramparts, the price is measured.
In contrast to the regular tariffs for journeys to the Rome downtown area, where baggage is part of the tariff, you will be billed a surcharge for each piece of baggage for journeys with a taximeter. First of all, you refuse anyone who comes close to you and offers a taxi or personal transportation in the area of the terminals. You can either take a taxi from the taxi stand in Rome or reserve a personal vehicle in anticipation - everyone else is operated illegal, probably in an illegal taxi.
Aeroporto Taxi Square of Fermiicino is quite well organized with a unique track on which the taxis should form an arranged line, and is purely coincidental which particular cabin you are in turn. Alternatively to the licenced staterooms, you can book your own transfer in advanced. You will be received and welcomed by your chauffeur when you leave the luggage hangar at the international airports or at the front desk of your hotel/apartment.
Don't be concerned if your trip is delayed - airport arrivals are tracked and the chauffeur adjusts his ETA to the real ETA. Drivers wait in front of the exits to the custom building with your name approx. 30 min after the real landings - not at the planned times.
If you do not have any baggage, an early check-in can be arranged. Queue fees are levied after 60 minute queuing period. You will be billed 5% of the starting price plus a small surcharge depending on the period between the date of your booking and the date of your departure. No refunds will be made for cancelations made 48 hrs before your pick-up or for no-shows at the planned pick-up date.
Don't be afraid if your trip is delayed, wait periods - Airport arrivals are tracked and the chauffeur adjusts his arrivals hours to the real air travel arrivals hours. Drivers wait in front of the exits to the custom building with your name approx. 30 min after the real landings - not at the planned hours.
If you do not have any baggage, an early check-in can be arranged. Queue fees are charged after 60 min. of queuing and wait times. One effective way to see Rome within the restricted period of your stay is a brief trip through Rome on the way from the international airports. It' an excellent way to get to grips with Rome quickly and perhaps to check your priority for what you want to see later, more closely and for longer.
