Airlanka

Alanya

The Airlanka was the old Sri Lankan career, now the new one is the Sri Lankan airline! homepage As the four-engined Airbus arrived in Colombo on 1 September 1994, the island knew that nothing would ever be the same again. It was the domestic airlines, then known as Lanka Airlines, that never took a look back. It was the first Asian company to add A340s to its A340 portfolio, making it the jealous choice of other airlines in the area.

During the first few flights, the aircraft's seat layout was similar to its forerunner, the Lockheed TriStar, with 260 passengers in economy, 20 in executive and 12 in first-class. The A340, then considered the best Airbus industrial airplane, was much smaller than other airplanes of its own age.

The A340-300, like all members of the Airbus commercial aircraft range, has been the culmination of many innovative developments, among them fly-by-wire control systems that have led to improvements in security, as well as reduced weights and costs.

Emirates' participation in A330-200 orders for Emirates' Lanka aircraft

It has ordered six Airbus A330-200s after having approved a 40% interest in the Sri Lankan company by Air Lanka. Located in Dubai, the company will run Air Lanka for 10 years, says the Sri Lankan Public Enterprises Reform Commission (PERC). In addition, Emerirates has undertaken to keep a 30% participation for the entire time.

Replacing Air Lanka's two Airbus A320s and two Lockheed L-1011 TriStar 500s. Boeing is also planning to convert the three to four year old Airbus A340-300. This A330 was selected over the Boeing 777 because of its improved capabilities and identity with Air Lanka's current Airbus 340.

A330s will also be identical to the 16 trend-powered A330-200 engines ordered by emirates - and with a similar cab interior design - but will retain its own distinctive look. Now, PERC says said Lanka has reported a R2.7 billion ($43 million) in losses. The $70 million invested by Emirates enabled Airbus to complete its Airbus contract without the customary sovereign warranties.

This includes a 25% Airbus rebate, a warranty that "Air Lanka will be indemnified if another purchaser gets better conditions for a similar order", and a warranty for the A330's salvage value. After 380 hours of field trials, the Airbus A330-200 powered by General Electric CF6 obtained concurrent approval from the European Joint Aviation Authorities, Transport Canada and the US Federal Aviation Administration on 31 March.
