Chefpilot of the Chicago Helicopter Experience, who can do up to 20 trips in one single trip, said the career was never dull. Mr. Mike Jansen, 39, is the operational manager and one of five helicopter operators at CHE, 2420 S. Halsted St., who operates four aircraft and has recorded more than 70,000 trips and charter flights since the founding of the business in 2012.

Drivers - who according to experience and responsibility make between 50,000 and 150,000 dollars a year - spend between six and eight flying hours/day, five working days/week. Choppers divide their air space with intelligence choppers, law enforcement and firefighting choppers, etc. and use both Chicago Midway International Airport and O'Hare International Airport air space.

Jansen, who is living in the South Loop, moved to Chicago in May to take over the work. With 15 years experience in helicopter flying, he has traveled on four different planes during his professional life. He has a curriculum vitae including Texas and Oklahoma ambulances, Afghanistan defenses, California and Alaska forest fires, China fire extinguishing, New York City touring and chartering, and four years of "moving the scientist around the ice" at the National Science Foundation in Antarctica.

The 15-minute helicopter trip - beginning near McCormick Place and along the lakeshore to Wrigley Field and back - can accommodate up to six in all. Pilots and pilots carry all noise-suppressing headset during the flights, which reproduce ambient sound and enable clear communication.
