A helicopter shuttle operating between London's two major Gatwick and Heathrow aerodromes between 1978 and 1986, was marketed under the trade name Aerlink.... The " nosy and one-of-a-kind operation "[1], run by British Caledonian Airways and British Airways Helicopters together with a Sikorsky S-61 of the British Airport Authority, linked the fast-growing airport in the years before the existence of the M25 highway.

Despite the fact that the route had been authorised to run until 1994, the Minister of Transport interfered and withdrew the authorisation with effect from February 1986, when the continuation of the connection became a "highly contentious issue" discussed by parliamentarians, airline companies, air traffic controllers, public administrations and many other stakeholders.
