F orchard zoning area is a zoning area as defined by the Urban Redevelopment Authority." The orchard borders Newton to the north and east, Tanglin to the west, River Valley to the southeast and the museum to the southeast. The Orchard Road became a one-way road in 1974 after more than a hundred years as a two-lane road.

5 ] The always vibrant road begins at the intersection with the Orange Grove Road, which is the site of the Orchard Hotel. The route then extends south east through Scotts Road-Paterson Hill intersection, Orchard MRT Station, Bideford Road, Somerset MRT Station, Central Expressway, Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station and ends at Handy Road intersection (just before Prinsep Street) where it becomes Bras Basah Road.

Numbers start at Handy Rd and end at Orange Grove Rd. Orkhard Rd was already capped in the 1830', although the new street was not mentioned in George Colemans map of Singapore in 1836. During the 1830' the Orchard Rd area was the site of Gambian and peppers plants. Muscat groves and apple gardens later dominated, hence the name.

Until 1846 the distribution of the buildings extended as far as Tank Road. None on the leftside and only three or four homes passed Tank Road on the right side of Orchard Road. It had a backyard and a nursery on the edge of today's Scotts Road and Orchard Road.

In the late 1840' cemeteries began to be built along the street. In 1846 the Chinese had a large cemetery around today's Meritus Mandarin Hotel and Ngee Ann City, while the Sumatrans from Bencoolen had their cemetery where today's Grand Central Hotel is located.

Later, a Yiddish graveyard was built, which was situated where the MRT station Dhoby Ghaut is today and was torn down in 1984. During the 1860' Orchard Rd had a large number of homes and chalets on top of rolling mounds overlooking the valleys through which the street ran. In the early 1890s, King Chulalongkorn, the then King of Siam, purchased Hurricane House near Orchard Street by Tan Kim Ching, the Thai consul in Singapore.

Later, two other neighbouring properties were added, which later became the seat of the Royal Thai Embassy at 370 Orchard Road. At the beginning of the twentieth millennium it was discovered that the Orchard Road had "the look of a well shadowed alley to English mansions", similar in its "quiet but striking beautiness to the Devonshire lanes".

" Istana is situated at the east end of Orchard Road. The information suggests that Orchard Road was once a swampy marsh and these palm trees are remains of this area. On Orchard Road 38 to the southern side is the home of former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.

The Botanical Garden is located on the west side of Orchard Road. The Goodwood Park Hotel is located along the Scotts Road, a beautiful example of monumental buildings and architectural work. Tangs, the first upscale Singapore supermarket, is located at the intersection of Scotts Road and Orchard Road. Approximately half way along Orchard Road are Cairnhill and Emerald Hill, where the wealthy Chinese constructed their homes, which are now first class homes in search of by wealthy specialists and expats.

One of the oldest residential buildings in Singapore dating from the turn of the last millennium, Amber Mansions, was pulled down in the 1980s to make room for the Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station. The retail park was one of the first renovation works on Orchard Road. The retail park itself was pulled down in 2007 to make room for a new evolution, the Orchard Gateway.

Somewhere else, right on Orchard Road on Scotts Road, the Scotts Mall was Singapore's first ever commercial foods court, situated below Ascott Singapore. Orchard Road's first store was Tangs, which was set up in 1934, and Orchard Road in the 1950'. The Orchard Road is accompanied by a number of hotel and walking centers, which are home to many upscale dining establishments, cafes, bars and night clubs.

The Tanglin Mall is situated at the intersection of Tanglin Road and Grange Road. The Orchard Central differs from other commercial centers on Orchard Road in terms of architecture and designs. Surrounded by an outdoor area with the artwork diaphragm of the native painter Matthew Ngui, the Mall provides a clusters approach to retail by bundling additional services for buyers.

Located on the highest rock face in the globe, the Mall is home to a large selection of publicly displayed works by internationally renowned artisans and a round-the-clock roof garden and discovery walkway. is directly connected to the Somerset MRT facility and has a cluster of medium-sized retailers and restaurants/cafés. The Orchard Road malls do not face the loss of renters every year.

Since 2009, most of the market has started to sway with the newer centers (such as Westgate/JEM/JCube, Waterway Point, Seletar Mall, Tiong Bahru Plaza, Nex, Bedok Mall, Clementi Mall, Changi City Point and Tampines 1). DFS T Galleria - Located on Scotts Road, the duty-free Mall mainly markets luxuries, among them Bottega Veneta, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci, Hermès, Loewe and Bvlgari wares.

Opened on 21 July 2009, ION Orchard - ION Orchard is home to six two-storey flagship boutiques, each covering almost 840 sqm, among them Prada, Giorgio Armani, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Cartier, Patek Philippe, Jaeger-LeCoultre and Vacheron Constantin. The Ngee Ann City is the biggest retail centre along Orchard Road.

The Ngee Ann City - The mall opened in 1993 and is the biggest on Orchard Road. Southeast Asia's second biggest bookshop, Books Kinokuniya, is located in the area. There is a direct connection between the mall and Orchard stop. Located on the former site of Wisma Indonesia, where the former Indonesian mission was located.

Situated in the immediate vicinity of Istana, the mall opened in 1974 with a closed down Yaohan mall. Jucky Plaza - A mall that somehow became the hub for Filipino servants to socialize with their mates during their free time. In the meantime, the retail park has been renovated.

Paragon is a high-end mall along Orchard Road. This is Cathay Cineleisure Orchard - a movie theater in Singapore with a 7-Eleven and a meal courtyard. The Orchard Central - Singapore's first and highest vertically integrated retail center, replacing the former parking lot and opened on July 2, 2009.

The Orchard Gateway - Replaced retail park, also opened in 2014. Ochard Point - Before the OG supermarket was established, the building used to have its own gallery. The Orchard Towers - A retail mall made up of semi-detached houses with small stores and night clubs and a call for promiscuity after work activities.

Paragon - The Paragon is a high-end retail center that sells brands such as Gucci (whose parent company is based here), Miu Miu, Prada, Coach and Burberry with a Metro boutique and a Marks & Spencer market. In 2002 it was extended and took over the property once used by another mall, the Promenade.

Centrepoint - The Centrepoint was opened in 1983 and has Robinsons and Marks and Spencer as anchors. The Forum The Mall - Forum mainly sold brand-name children's clothing and accessoires with a Toys "R" Us on the third storey. The Shaw House and Center - Shaw House is the home of the Isetan Mall, and on the fifth and fifth stories is one of Singapore's biggest cinemas, Lido 8 Cineplex.

The Hilton Singapore - The Hilton Gallery is located inside the Hilton itself and is home to brand stores such as Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Bulgari, Lanvin, Donna Karan, Balenciaga and Dolce & Gabbana. This is an important landmark for the Lend Lease Group as it is the first greenfield project in Asia and the first in Singapore's leading boulevard - Orchard Road.

The Orchard Road is lavishly illuminated for the Christmas period towards the end of each year. Every Christmas the Orchard Road is adorned with Christmas lighting. There' three big MRI sites near Orchard Road: Somerset and Dhoby Ghaut MRI wards. These stops are important junctions for commuteers, local residents, college and college residents and tourist travellers to the Orchard Road commercial and commercial area.

SBS Transit's coach service, SMRT buses and Tower Transit Singapore offer direct connection to Orchard Road. In order to prevent traffic jams, buses are phased in so that the programme is operational on 13 May 2004 (1st phase, Mandarin Orchard Singapore) and 28 May 2004 (2nd phase, Midpoint Orchard). You will find the most important buses along the Orchard Road in the town:

Westerly traveling passenger at Penang Road (Dhoby Ghaut Station), Somerset Road (Somerset Station), Orchard Turn (opp Ngee Ann City/Takashimaya), Orchard Turn (Orchard Station), Orchard Boulevard (opp Orchard Station) and Orchard Boulevard (Wheelock Place). The Orchard Road has many taxi ranks, most of which can be found in commercial centers and hotel complexes.

Welcoming taxi cabs at places other than these officially designated booths is forbidden. If you drive into Orchard Road, you can drive in from the east via Napier Road. Dunearn Road cars travelling on Scotts Road can turn off at the Marriott Hotel intersection into Orchard Road. Cars arriving from the opposite side of Paterson Road can drive into Orchard Road by turning right.

Orchard Road has a number of other streets that lead to it. The Orchard Road is a one-way road to the southern direction and takes you to Bras Basah Road, a one-way road to the southern direction. The Bukit Bintang, the Kuala Lumpur mall.
