Cheap Domestic Airlines

Inexpensive domestic airlines

Cheap domestic flights from Tokyo There are some places in Japan that are simply too far away for us to take a long coach trip, and then there are the places that cannot even be reached by coach from Tokyo, like Okinawa. Luckily, there is a certain balance between coaches ( usually the least costly but most time-consuming option) and the very costly but fastest high-speed train: low-cost carrier (LCCs), a blessing for many travellers over the last ten years.

Low budget airlines can become very cheap - especially if they have promotions! In such cases, they can be even less expensive than overnight busses, even taking into account the costs of travelling to and from the airport. They don't have to compulsively go to their sites every single day just to make sure you haven't missed a deals, so you can usually just subscribe to a mailinglist of the kind to be kept up to date on their latest sells.

Obviously it would be difficult to find reduced fare tickets that are available during main travelling seasons or at big festival, but we assume that you can't always have your pie and have it. Only because they are much less expensive than normal airlines does not mean that they are less secure. In Japan they are flying from Narita Airport to Sapporo in Hokkaido, Naha in Okinawa, Amami Oshima from Kagoshima Prefecture, but they also have overseas connections to Hong Kong as well as Taipei and Kaohsiung from Taiwan.

Whilst tariffs differ according to seasons (not to speak of days and times, the differences can also be), single tariffs (basic price without hold baggage) usually begin at well below 10,000 Yen. Sapporo, Naha and Amami Oshima, for example, begin with low rates of 3,990-4,990 Japanese Yen, 5,990-6,490 Japanese Yen and 5,690-6,390 Japanese yen.

To give you an inkling of how good a good deal can be with a promotion, this writer had to go to Hokkaido in July 2015 for less than 3,000 yen per trip! Out of Narita they go to Sapporo, Fukuoka and Osaka. From Osaka there are a number of connections to places like Sapporo, Sendai, Nagasaki, Kagoshima and Naha.

You have some intercontinental connections to Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea. Since our last updated (February 2017), our services from Tokyo to Sapporo, Fukuoka and Osaka begin at 4,090 Japanese Yen, 4,790 Japanese yen and 3,490 Japanese yen respectively. As with Vanilla Air, there are also some really great promotions, e.g. thanks to an fall sales there were once trips from Osaka to Tokyo for 2,790 Japanese cents per route.

Jetstar flies to a number of destinations (including Osaka, Fukuoka, Matsuyama, Sapporo and Oita) and has launch ratings that are generally in the same band as the above-mentioned airlines. In order to demonstrate that at the date of this letter (September 2017), one-way departures from Narita to Osaka begin at 3,990yen. However, fare increases according to season and date, so the first or last flight on a weekday should be the best.

LCC Spring Airlines' Japan office in Shanghai, Spring Airlines Japan, began operation in 2014. He will fly to select destinations in China as well as Hiroshima, Osaka, Sapporo, and Takamatsu. From February 2017, Tokyo to Hiroshima, Osaka, Sapporo and Saga will begin flying at less than 4,000 yen per leg.

Domestic air fares begin as low as 737 Japanese cents per leg for about a whole week. Some consider these airlines to be cheap, but can only be slightly less expensive than domestic scheduled airlines. However, these airlines may offer much lower discounts on tickets to these destinations.

Ordinary rates are not quite as cheap, but according to how early you make your flight - 80 day in advance, 60 day in advance and so on - you can get significantly cheaper rates (10,500-21,000 Japanese Yen for Tokyo to Kagoshima flight, for example). You also have a Visit Japan Tourist Tariff which allows you to travel from Haneda Airport Tokyo to Miyazaki, Kumamoto, Nagasaki, Kagoshima and Oita for 10,500 Japanese yen per trip.

However, this tariff is subject to certain restrictions; firstly, the website states that this ticketing is only available on a standby base, and there are extra setup fees (290 Japanese yen for adult travellers, 140 Japanese yen for 3-11 year olds) for Haneda Airport travellers. Will you be coming to Tokyo soon? When you live in Japan, either get someone who can speak Japanese to help you browse Solaseed's website, or review the reservation pages of airlines such as Skyscanner, as Solaseed's flight shows up from time to time (usually not the cheap ones).

Skymark Airlines operates flights from Haneda Airport to Sapporo, Kobe, Fukuoka, Nagasaki, Kagoshima and Naha. General pricing ranges from 10,000-20,000 Japanese yen, but offers a variety of tariffs, such as rebates for seniors, disabled persons and 12-21 year old passenger (although this rebate is available under 21 years of age only one working days in advance of your flight's date of departure).

It flies from Tokyo to Nagoya, Kobe, Okayama, Hiroshima and various Hokkaido towns and is not so different from Solaseed's or Skymark's in its pricing. As the other two airlines, it provides rebates depending on how far in advance you buy a tickets, as well as last-minute rebates. There is also a promotion rate for international guests at Open Do: the Welcome to Hokkaido rate of only 8,800 Japanese yen per one-way journey (9,600 Japanese yen at certain times).

However, despite the name, the website indicates that the tariff is applicable on all services of Aero Do. This promotion is not available for you to use on-line, so it is best to contact a local tourist office. Don't rely on airlines like Japan Airlines (JAL) and All Nippon Airways (ANA) to cut their rates to be as cheap as the low-cost airlines, but they have reduced domestic tourist airfare, similar to Solaseed Airs Visit Japan rate.

They may also ask you to provide evidence of your travel to and from Japan. In the meantime, ANA has launched the Experience Japan Tariff and Visiting Japan Tariff. Apart from the different prices (10,800 Japanese yen for the first and 13,000 Japanese yen for the second ), the main thing is that the Japan Buy can only be bought outside Japan and you must buy at least two and no more than five Japan Buy ticket.

From our last updated Experience Japan tariff is available until October 28, 2017. Within the framework of the Experience Japan promotional fares, from 26 March 2017 onwards itineraries within Hokkaido (Sapporo to Wakkanai, Memanbetsu, Nemuro Nakashibetsu, Kushiro and Hakodate) will receive a preferential price of 5,400 Japanese Yen per route. Please be aware that the Visit Japan promotional tariff is closed from March 3 to March 31, 2017, July 1 to August 31, 2017, December 1 to January 5, 2018, March 1 to March 31, 2018, and July 1 to August 31, 2018.
