Carbonondale is a Jackson County, Illinois, USA town within the South Illinois area, formally known as Little Egypt. From 1853 the town evolved by stimulating railway building in the area. Nowadays, the main roads of the Illinois Route 13 and the U.S. Route 51 cross in the town.

Situated 154 km south east of St. Louis, Missouri, on the northerly border of the Shawnee National Forest. The Carbondale is home to the Southern Illinois University headquartersampus. At the time of the 2010 Metropolitan Count, the town had 25,902 inhabitants and is the twentieth most populous town in the state outside the Chicago metropolitan area.

It is also the most densely populated southern Illinois town outside the St. Louis Metro East and the most densely populated Carbondale Marion Herrin, Illinois combined statistic area and Metro Lakeland area. CSA has 126,575 inhabitants, the 6th largest combination area in Illinois. Because of the large amount of carbon in the area, Brush called it Carbondale.

Carbondale's first platoon journey came on Independence Day 1854 and travelled northbound on the principal line from Cairo, Illinois. Until the American Civil War, Carbondale evolved into a local centre for transport and commerce, immersed in rural prosperity. Part of Illinois was called "Little Egypt" because of the junction of the Ohio and Mississippi tributaries, where the city of Cairo is sited.

When Carbondale College (renamed Southern Illinois College in 1869) was founded, the town became an education centre. Carbondale expresses true Christianity through various church confessions, a unitary universalist communion, two ministries, a Hebrew church, a Sufi communion, and two Buddha organisations - the Shawnee Dharma Group and the Sunyata Center.

South of Illinois, the first Hindu shrine opened in June 2013 in Carbondale. Gaia House Interfaith Centre offers room for cross-cultural exchanges and individual development. This is also an educational centre to help the fellowship become more ecological, integrate better practice into everyday lives and establish objectives for the years to come.

Because of its thriving poetic commune, Carbondale is sometimes called the " Poets' Village ". Some of the city's commercial areas are large commercial centres (including the University Mall on the eastern side of the city) where a mix of local chains and local companies can be found. There are 18 Carbondale outdoor and outdoor playgrounds, as well as the Superblock, a multiplex sport facility with ballparks, softballs, soccer, volleyball, athletics and more. Cedar Lake, a five-minute drive from Carbondale, is a Cedar Lake urban pool open for sea and canoe trips. A few moments southern of Carbondale is Jeremy Rochman Memorial Park, founded by Barrett Rochman to commemorate his 19-year-old car crash ing victim Jeremy "Boo" Rochman.

Shawnee National Forest, near Carbondale, is home to many vineyards. During 2011, the occupying movement took up residency on the Quigley Hall lawns at Southern Illinois College and sometimes clashed with locals' cops and college politics. All the other trade unions - the Non-Tenure Track Faculty Association, the Association of Civil Service Employees and the Graduate Assistants United - agreed with the authorities within a few working days of the picket-raising.

A number of community-based organisations deal with issues of conflict, equity and the ecology, such as the Coalition of Southern Illinois/Fellowship of Reconciliation, the Shawnee Green Party, the Student Environmental Center, the Southern Illinois Center for a Sustainable Future and community sections of the American Civil Liberties Union, the Sierra Club and the National Audubon Society.

During 2001, the town hosted the Green Party Congress. One area near the Strip was also the scene of several notorious Halloween disturbances in the eighties and nineties. On Halloween the Southern Illinois Avenue with its campuses and nightclubs was shut down in the following years.

Carbondale is located at the junction of U.S. Route 51 and Illinois Route 13. Access to Route 13 at Marion to the west and Rt. 51 at Dongola to the South is possible via Route 57. You can reach lnterstate 24 six nautical miles from Marion on I-57. It is 331 H wyrd-mile from Chicago, Illinois, 96 Hwy-mile from St. Louis, Missouri, and 213 Hwy-mile from Memphis, Tennessee.
