When you have new medical complaints (24KB) that may interfere with your ability to drive, you must notify the Hackney Carriage Office immediately. As part of the test, all new riders must also be familiar with the Hackney Carriage Licence Conditions (PDF 147KB). If you are a driver of a hackney car or a hired driver who meets the access requirements, you may request to be placed on the waitlist for a Hackney driver's license.

The Trading Standards Trading Standards staff has created an "Access to Knowledge" course to help individuals preparing for the test. They must pass a Conviction Disclosure Examination (DBS) and/or otherwise demonstrate their good nature as described in the Driver's Guide above. After you have successfully completed the test, please fill in the application form and make an arrangement to take it with you along with the other documentation mentioned in the guided tour.
