From May 3, 2016, cabs are now part of Toronto Ground Transportation Services, which includes limousine taxi services, and About X.Toronto has a large pool of cabs; and they are a one stop shop (no fare increase) they come in useful if you are in a hurry or have a great deal of baggage in tow. What's more, they are a great way to get around in a hurry.

Toronto cabs are private property. You may or may not be connected to a taxi broker. Every taxi can be operated around the clock, usually by self-employed employees who hire shift work. From November 01, 2015, cabs will have a metre dropping (starting fare) of $3.25 (minus $1 from before) to begin their journey, with an extra $0.25 for each subsequent 0.143 km (about two blocks) or for each 29 second wait.

Additionally, there is a supplement for more than 4 people, $2.00 per supplement. A surcharge will be levied for the use of a ticket. Taxis are not overpriced, so you do not consent to paying anything above the metre price. Must be switched on or the trip is free.

Tariffs are set by the municipality, so all cabs have the same tariffs. Excursions outside the town are often not measurable, please arrange a price with the rider beforehand. Standardised all-in tariffs for the airports are available. Taxi's in the inner town are relatively easily caught if one stands only on the kerb of a big road and waves to an approaching taxi with the roof window switched on.

The majority of taxi cars are mid-size US and Japan limousines that will carry four persons (except barrier-free vehicles). Mini van taxes and available taxes are less common, so it's best to call an agent's rate in advance if you need one. A lot of brokers will charge an incremental charge, but the City of Toronto Municipal Code does not allow any incremental charges for delivery trucks other than the apartment $2 per $2. 00 per capita if there are more than 4 of them.

Taxi's are generally in good condition, and many are less than 5 years old. AccessibleToronto taxes must have a similar waiting period to normal taxes with new rules to be adopted by the city council in June 2016. These changes are expected to bring most Toronto taxi operators into compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.

Whilst any taxi can set down a passenger at the Toronto International Airports, it is unlawful for Toronto Taxi to collect a passenger at the Toronto International Airports without previous agreement. However, some do: if they are contacted by someone at the air base who offers you a trip, they either disregard it or tell a person in uniform at the air base.
