Though taxis in Paris can be quite pricey, they are extremely advantageous for taking you directly to the front of your hotels or other type of lodging where you are going to stay in the downtown Lights on vacation, especially if you have a lot of baggage with you, and you will find special taxi stands, such as those you can see in this photo taken right in front of the Eiffel Tower, which is spread all over the town in some very famous places.

Taxis at the Gare du Nord- Paris Message Board

For those who arrive at Gare du Nord and want a taxi, the default council is to use the taxi stand on the west side of the train yard (and be ready for a long queue). Today at noon there were at least 6 cabs and no waiting line. We had a very long line at the taxi stand.

Has anyone had any use of the taxi stand on Rue de Dunkerque? Does it always have cabs?

Availability of taxis / costs within Paris

We' ll be in Paris for four evenings at the end of next months, and while we plan to take the metro or in most cases go on foot, there are some places - whether it's a particular place to eat or a particular neighbourhood - that these choices are too complicated or too timely to be convenient. Therefore we would like to have the possibility to take a taxi from Paris.

Now I know that CDG Paris taxi licences are regular from CDG to Paris-Stadt, but what about within the borders? Do you mark one like we do here in town, or is it better if the hotels or restaurants call you?

Paris taxi from Gare Du Nord?

When approaching the front of the line, the taxi stand is set up in such a way that you walk (shuffle) along the line while driving up to the top of the line. It is easy to see the line of taxi's extending in the far and you can observe who the managers are and how they load.

When I walked through there last year, there were 2 men, one at the top of the line and one at the entrance to the line, who moved the men who needed a bigger taxi or who were locked into a seperate area. It is called "Avis Location de Voiture*, but this is actually the taxi rank.
