One $135K Around the World Private Jet Vs. Self Bookings

" It' s my favorite to find the most cool experience in the world and find out how to do the same things for less cash. It'?s the only way I can show them the world with three children. As I am a voyage planner freak with a backing packer mindset and a passion for luxury, every single booklet I get for a private jet cruise by post makes me wonder how I could make a similar cruise for less mone.

Ultimately, each trip costs between $50,000 and $150,000, which is well outside the family's median spending. However, this does not mean that an ordinary household should do without an incredible experience around the world. Three of the most important Jet Tour operators are National Geographic, Four Seasons and Abercrombie & Kent. The National Geographic trips are themed (e.g. around Africa, important places of worship, inventiveness or surprising animals), last two to three week and range from $56,000 to $84,000 per year.

The Abercrombie & Kent travels usually take 20-26 business day around the world and cost between $92,000 and $147,000 per year. In Four Seasons' travels everything revolves around luxury. They focus on staying in Four Seasons properties, traverse large parts of the world in 19-24 day periods and are rigorously valued at $135,000 per individual.

Benefits of private jet travel are: Return your pass on departure - you will receive it back at the end of your journey. With the NatGeo jettrips, I know a lot of people who have travelled on them, and they go beyond that at every stop to make sure the pictures on the boat are great.

After travelling to Antarctica with National Geographic, I can testify to the value that these professionals give a journey - they travel with some of the most interesting travelers in the world. Everywhere trips and activites are scheduled, from warm ballon and chopper trips to dog sledding and private visits to historical places.

You pack a whole life of fun in three week's time. Routes are professionally worked out, but for world travellers in this margin of incomes there will always be travel places that they have already been to. If you want to replace Bora Bora for Budapest or you want to remain in the Maldives for a few holidays, you cannot make these changes.

There are so few children going on these trips that nothing is optimised for them - they would be taken on an adults holiday. How much would it take to make a journey that is practically the same as one of the above private jet trips? Think it' really valuable to go on this less costly journey?

Instead, how would I make a singular journey around the world? How much would it take to make a private jet journey with business planes? To make this analogy, I consider Four Seasons' International Intrigue trip. It is not the most costly private jet flight that is on offer, nor is it the least expensive. No. Although I wasn't in the Four Seasons private jet, I am very comfortable with Four Seasons hotel and resort as I spent the night with my children in eight of their homes around the world.

It is one of the few brand that finds a consistent and complete equilibrium between luxury and childiness. Also, the last jet booklet I got from Four Seasons last night was what made me want to put a pointed leadpipe ( ok, spreadsheet) down and do the mathematics. This journey would take you to Seattle-Osaka-Beijing-Male-Arusha/Serengeti-Budapest-St. Petersburg-Marrakech-Boston.

No longer are there many aircraft/routes with first class cabin, so I have removed this as a searching engine, although it is most directly similar to the private jet servicing levels. I have chosen the best value for money flight in all cases, taking into consideration the cost and length of the itinerary.

If I were to book such a complex route, I would look at the round-the-world travel passes of the three airlines associations and toy with other travel choices such as multi-leg passes if there is an air carrier that operates several successive legs. I use the data for the rates exactly one weeks after the private jet ride, as the companies have already reserved large room units for the jet passengers, which tends to raise the rates for the rest of the equipment.

I convert to $US through the Four Seasons check out options. Totals for the two-person hotel are $18,354. 87, or $9,177. Forty-three per capita. Apparently you will be eating (and drinking) very well on the Four Seasons itinerary. Without taking into account the food taken on the plane, for lunch, dinner and beverages, I will perform a fast 22 night hotel computation multiplying by $200/person.

Let us suppose that you will not book private dinners in the wilderness or private flights by chopper, but that you will want expert tour leaders everywhere and, if possible, unforgettable sights. That'?s $13,200 a pair, or $6,600 a head. But if you want to see the same Four Seasons property, but are willing to travel commercially and take a less one-of-a-kind journey, you can book it yourself:

Bora Bora Bora Four Seasons. Does it pay to remain on this cheaper journey? So, let's say you are agitated about the savings that you would make the journey yourself, and you would love on staying at the same four seasons characteristics. Your next step is whether or not you want to make this reservation.

Several of these services are uncomplicated and offer little longer duration than a private jet - Seattle-Osaka-Beijing and Budapest-St. Petersburg in particular. "Nobody reasonable would go on a luxury holiday on such a flight with business air travel. The only way to get on these airways without spending a great deal of your transport is by private jet.

However, a world tour is an unbelievably awesome thing to do once in a life time. This gives you the opportunity to see many of your dreams with your own hands and see how small the world really is. That'?s at the Four Seasons Chiang Mai.

In the past year, I travelled around the world with my ten-year-old in two week's travel, partially influenced by these jet journeys. Most of the times we were flying our way in our businessclass, we were staying everywhere in neat hotel accommodation (including three Four Seasons Properties), and the last round came under $10,000 or $5,000 apiece.

So it was less than the private jet trips, which stopped seven places in six different counties - the private rounds of the world reached between 8 and 15 counties - but it was an astonishing journey. Now my daugther notices how simple it is to go all over the world and she wants to see everything.

When I would organize a new journey and have three week to toy with instead of two, then I would do that: The majority of these jet trips go westward - that means you loose a tag that crosses the date line, but you win a few hrs at each stop.

I' d estimate that I could make a travel route of half-business, half-bus trips for $4,500 per passenger, in Addition to using some Miles for Upgrades. I' d make the route on the basis of simple flying choices. I would be trying to stick to a multitude of those four seasons features, but I would want our mean Hotel rates to come in below $500/night - we could split at some stunning places (hi, over water bungalows!) as long as we balanced that out with moderate cheap town features.

Together with the transfer and others, this is a $12,350/person journey with modest luxury and lots of excitement. This is not cheap, but it is much less than $135,000, it is less than a set of custom trips to the same goals, and it is all adaptable. And if you added one more to your journey and assumed that you could have three persons in each room, the mean costs would drop to $10,000/person, and a quarter would get the mean below $9,000.

And, of course, it's possible to pay less for hotel accommodation, food and activity because we ended up going around the world for under $5,000. Please note: I haven't checked the prices for the manual compilation of any of the NatGeo or A&K routes, but I would assume that this is approximately the same as for the Four Seasons.

If I ever won the raffle and go on one of these trips, I will be updating this entry with more advantages and disadvantages! What is your journey of dreams? Would you do it if you had to pay $100,000+ for a private jet ride, or would you rather be planning a journey yourself?
