It is a Southern Africa based company that franchises British Airways with national flights. It is an associate member of the Oneworld coalition and also acts as a low-cost carriers under its own kulula.com name. Comair' s headquarters is OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg, with major towns at Cape Town International Airport and King Shaka International Airport.

In a cartel case with South African Airways, the tribunal grants the company more than R1 billion euros. The South African Comair will make a suggestion to Botswana to take over the country's carriers, Comair's managing director said. British Airways in South Africa and its no-frills Kulula.com operating company, Comair, has previously competed for Air Botswana but in 2008 withdrew from a round of tenders that did not win them.

"We' ll make a filing and see if they are interested in our approach," Comair CEO Erik Venter said to Reuters, saying that suggestions must be made before the end of February. Venter said Comair wants justice and oversight over the airlines linking four Botswana towns to South Africa. "We would even look at a managment agreement, but it would have to be on the assumption that we operate a large amount of it from Comair in order to achieve economy of scale," he said.

The Botswana Airlines, which offers freight and passengers flights to Cape Town and Johannesburg from Gaborone, Francistown and the tourist centres Maun and Kasane, has burdened public finance. "It needs economy of scales, and a small carrier alone will never be able to do that," Venter said, and added that a take-over would mean relocating some of the airline's operations to Johannesburg.

Recently closing its flights to Harare and Lusaka from Gaborone, Botswana Air cut its 2016 loss in half to 83 million pula (US$8 million). In Venter's opinion, it is unlikely that the carrier will receive bids from interested parties. Venter said that Comair is also looking for further acquisition without giving further detail.
