They will find a fair amount of cash under which certain "trusted" services/expenses can be provided and restrict the amount you are willing to refund on the basis of what has been done and not how it has been done.

@Henning and Joe Buck: The downside of your point is that if you have a firm full of costly experts (e.g. engineering or programming), it doesn't make much point to ask them to book their own trip for an hours or two. Instead, you should have one or more committed supporter (s) to take care of things like making reservations so that the costly specialist can devote their attention to doing the things that only they can do.

Working for a large computer retailer (which is supposed to stay anonymous here), they had the policy that staff had to make their own itineraries.
