As with other Travel Air line planes, it was available with a wide range of different replaceable blades, among them a blade smaller and slimmer than the remainder known as "Speedwing" and, as the name implies, capable of higher cruising speeds. In 1930 Travel Air participated in the Guggenheim Safe Competition in a specifically altered Model 4000 (known as 4000-T), which was subsequently dismantled.

Besides a broad spectrum of standard airplane application and the eye-catching use in a small Latin America conflict, Travel Air double-deckers were also used in early films. In 1933, five models of Bs cruise airplanes and a number of other airplanes were built in Ari Of Ases. Modell B air model A equipped with a Wright J-6 reciprocating motor.

As with other cruise planes, the Model 4000 versions were identified by lettering preceding (or sometimes preceding) the base designations to indicate different powerplant and blade fit. The planes in question are survival planes belonging to museums: Wilkinson, Stephen, "'Wichita Fokker' Take Flight," February 28, 2014, Aviation History, as published on HistoryNet. com accessed on January 7, 2017.
